European Congress on Obesity - Bidding to host future Congress
Invitation to Host the 21st European Congress on Obesity
The annual European Congress on Obesity (ECO) regularly attracts over 2,500 delegates from across Europe and other parts of the globe, and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) is now calling for its National Associations to bid for the right to host the 21st ECO, which will take place in 2014.
Following the long established ECO rotational policy, hosting the 2014 congress will be offered in the first instance to the Southern Region of EASO, the members of which are:
Bulgaria; Greece; Israel; Italy; Republic of Macedonia; Portugal; Serbia; Spain; Turkey.
If no Member Associations from the Southern Region apply to host ECO2014, all other Member Associations will be invited to host the Congress.
If you wish to bid, please submit an Expression of Interest letter to the EASO Secretariat by Tuesday 30th November 2010. In this letter you must confirm the candidate city chosen by your Association and outline why this city would be an appropriate host for the ECO. When selecting your host city, please consider the fact that the ECO currently attracts over 2500 delegates but that it is likely to grow year on year between now and 2014. We would expect each city to have good international access, a world class congress centre and sufficient accommodation across all categories.
The EASO Secretariat and Site Selection Committee will then assess each city against set criteria. This group may then visit some of the cities so that they can be assessed in greater detail and to allow the Secretariat to negotiate the best possible rental agreements with the congress venue, social programme venues and various suppliers, in advance of the General Council vote.
Representatives from the top two selected cities will then be invited to present their city to the EASO General Council which will select the successful host association by vote at the 2011 Annual meeting.
Please note that bids will only be accepted from fully paid-up Member Associations.

The EASO Executive Committee encourages all Member Associations in the Southern Region to consider submitting an application to host the ECO2014.
