Lyon, a Gastronomic Delight
In the kingdom of good taste, Lyon's cuisine reigns above all others. This centuries-old tradition is an intrinsic part of the Lyon way of life. If there is one title that can't be taken away from Lyon, it is definitely that of gastronomic capital of the world. You may not get a better chance to visit this beautiful city!
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Lyon's major asset resides in its distinctive architectural hallmarks and the contrasts in its setting, between two hills (Fourvière and Croix-Rousse) and two rivers (the Rhône and the Saône). With outstanding art museums, fantastic shopping and a thriving nightlife, Lyon has become a cultural and dynamic city with plenty to offer.
The entire city is small enough to tour easily over the course of a few days. Vieux Lyon, the old city and home to both Fourviere and the weekly public markets, is in the heart of the city and peppered with eateries ranging from bouchons – small, traditional bistros – to gourmet restaurants known as Les Grandes Tables. Not far is Place Bellecour, a bustling area of commerce.
Its centerpiece is Lyon’s Contemporary Museum of Art, and its backdrop is Parc Tete D'or (Golden Head Park), a 250-acre public park that includes a botanical garden, a zoo, a lake, and dozens of other attractions.
Lyon is a delightful city and we look forward to welcoming there for ECO2012!
With kind regards
