European Congress on Obesity - Bidding to host future Congress

Invitation to Host the 20th European Congress on Obesity

The annual European Congress on Obesity (ECO) regularly attracts over 2,500 delegates from across Europe and other parts of the globe, and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) is now calling for its National Associations to bid for the right to host the 20th ECO, which will take place in 2013.

Hosting ECO2013 will be offered in the first instance to the Northern Region of EASO, of which the following Associations are a member:

  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Germany
  • Iceland
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • UK & Ireland

If no Member Associations from the Northern Region apply to host ECO2013, all other Member Associations will be invited to host the Congress.

If you wish to bid, please submit an Expression of Interest letter to the EASO Secretariat by Friday 30th October 2009.  In this letter you must confirm the candidate city chosen by your Association and outline why this city would be an appropriate host for the ECO.  When selecting your host city, please consider the fact that the ECO currently attracts over 2500 delegates but that it is likely to grow year on year between now and 2013.  We would expect each city to have good international access, a world class congress centre and sufficient accommodation across all categories.

The EASO Secretariat and Site Selection Committee will then assess each city against set criteria. This group may then visit the top two ranked cities so that they can be assessed in greater detail and negotiate the best possible rental agreements with the congress venue, social programme venues and various suppliers.

Representatives from the selected cities will then be invited to present their city to the EASO General Council which will select the successful host association by vote at the 2010 Annual meeting.  Please note that the Site Selection Committee is not obliged to select two cities at this stage – if only one candidate is deemed appropriate, it will be put before the General Council for ratification.

Please note that bids will only be accepted from fully paid-up Member Associations.

For further information please contact the EASO Executive Director, Euan Woodward, at ewoodward@easo.org. Expression of Interest letters should also be sent to Euan Woodward, via email.

The EASO Executive encourages all Member Associations in the Notthern Region to consider submitting an application to host the ECO201.
