European Congress on Obesity - International Scientific Committee

It is the responsibility of the International Scientific Committee (ISC), in conjunction with the host National Association, to develop the Scientific Programme for the ECO.

The EASO Executive Committee believes that EASO should develop a scientific programme at the annual ECO that is attractive scientifically to as wide a range of audience as possible, thus allowing the Association to disseminate scientific and educational information more effectively.  

Future ISCs (from ECO2011) will therefore be structured as follows:

  • 1 Representative of the EASO Childhood Obesity Task Force
  • 1 Representative of the EASO Obesity Management Task Force
  • 1 Representative of the EASO Prevention and Public Health Task Force
  • 1 Representative of the Previous ECO
  • 1 Representative of the Host ECO
  • 1 Representative of the Following ECO
  • 1 Expert in Clinical Management
  • 1 Expert in Nutrition
  • 1 Expert in Surgery
  • 1 Expert in Psychology/Sociology
  • 1 Expert in Epidemiology
  • 2 Experts in Basic Science

This system will also ensure continuity from one congress to another, resulting in a wider coverage of topic and an avoidance of subject overlap.

Responsibilities of the ISC include determining the overall theme of the congress, developing tracks and sourcing appropriate speakers. The International Scientific Committee will consist of 6 representatives of EASO nominated by the EASO Executive and two persons from the Local Organising Committee. Obesity International Trading Limited will be responsible for servicing the ISC and for the administration of the scientific programme.

General Responsibilities:

  • Determine the overall theme of the congress and develop tracks accordingly. Schedule sessions in conjunction with Obesity International Trading Ltd
  • Select chairpersons and speakers for each session. Obesity International Trading Ltd will manage speaker invitations etc.
  • Select abstracts for poster presentation and free communications. The receipt and administration of abstracts will be handled by Obesity International Trading Ltd
  • Determine audio-visual requirements and expected levels of attendance for each session and allocate rooms accordingly (in conjunction with Obesity International Trading Ltd)
  • Approve the scientific content of satellite meetings to be held before or after the ECO
  • Approve the scientific content of industry sponsored satellite meetings to be held during the ECO
