Obesity Facts

Obesity Facts will publish articles covering all aspects of obesity, in particular epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis, treatment, and the prevention of adiposity.  All professionals concerned with obesity issues will find this journal a most valuable update to keep them abreast of the latest scientific developments.

Why is there a need for a new European Journal?

Obesity prevalence in many European countries has almost doubled in the past two decades and the continually increasing prevalence of obesity in children is alarming. Approximately 20% of European children are overweight or obese and in Southern Europe, prevalence actually exceeds 30% - a figure comparable to that in the United States.

It is not surprising therefore that in response to this negative trend, more and more attention has been paid to the problems of obesity by both researchers and clinicians. This increased focus on obesity has resulted in an ever increasing number of manuscript submissions but without an equivalent increase in publication opportunities. Unlike many of its fellow associations, the European Association for the Study of Obesity has not, until now, published an official journal.

Obesity Facts will increase publication opportunities and will provide EASO and its members with an important additional platform for disseminating new research achievements in our field.

We urge you, our National Association members, to submit papers for this important new publication.

We will launch this exciting initiative in 2008, the year of EASO’s 20th Anniversary - what better way to celebrate this important landmark?
